Welcome. My name is Klerian and I am just 17 tuns old. I was born to my mother Kaela in Lakeside Hold. I do not know who my father was and my mother is highly sensitive on the topic. All she has told me is that they did love each other greatly, and separated for lack of care in their relationship. I do however know that he is still alive ( I was told this by a journeyman healer who frequented Lakeside and was a dear friend of my mother). Lakeside was quite a good place for a child to grow up. There were large fields around and the runnerbeast Hold bordered a large forest where most of the children would play during their free time. The lake by the Hold was a wonderful place to swim, although a little cold in the Winter, and there were several orchards. I grew up amongst few other boys of my age, but I did have a good friend, Marissa. She was the daughter of a Harper and we spent many hours togethr playing in the orchards and composing tunes on our flutes. We would play our own symphonies to some of the other children, who I knew bu wasn’t that friendly with. But, she was sent to foster at another Hold when I was 12 turns old and I haven’t seen her since. But, weeks after Marissa left, I became an apprentice Harper under Tecoll - an elderly from the Harper Hall. This was a wonderful experience. With Marissa, I had never really had the chance to develop my music, but under Tecoll, I learned many arts and techniques that allowed me to compose pretty much whatever I wanted. Although I got great enjoyment from this, I was never that great at my music and often lagged behing the other apprentices. Two weeks after I reached 13 turns, my voice broke and I had to stop singing and was forced to play flute, which although I was better at, was not as much fun as singing. Tecoll, I think, was considering my future as a Harper at this stage. But, before he could end my ‘career’, I gave it up of my own accord. There wer two reasons for this. The first was that I wasn’t really getting satisfaction from playing, and the other was that my father had returned home. I was quite astounded to meet him for the first time. He didn’t look unlike me and I found that we got on quite well together. So, for the last four turns, I have been spending time with my father Beren. He was a runnerbeast breeder at a Hold in some other part of Pern and whe he arrived he took up a position at Lakeside’s runnerbeast Hold. Over the years he has risen through the ranks and now is joint owner of the Hold. |
